Special Recognition

Bank of America, Valero and Latino Giving Houston

On October 9, 2015 Trudy Nix from Bank of America presented Community Family Centers with $10,000 in support of our ongoing work to provide basic services to families as they garner the tools toward self-sufficiency. Thank you! #bofahouston

Community Family Centers is a proud beneficiary of funds raised for children's charities through Valero Energy, title sponsor of the Valero Texas Open and Valero Benefit for Children.  Maritza Guerrero, President & CEO of Community Family Centers attended a check presentation October 13th with Maria Davila, lead Montessori teacher for CFC's Los Niños Early Childhood Montessori Program.  We extend enormous gratitude to Valero and our Board Chair, Mario Anaya, for their generosity and support of the services and programs provided by Community Family Centers.

This year Community Family Centers was the recipient of the 2015 Latino Giving Houston grant in the amount of $10,500. Thank you to LGH for their generosity and support of CFC and the Los Ninos Early Childhood Montessori Program.  The children were delighted to welcome the Board of LGH as well as CFC Board member, Constable Heliodoro Martinez, to their Fall Festival for the official check presentation ceremony on October 30th, 2015.

United Way Impact Days/Days of Caring

On October 8, 2015 twenty five CenterPoint Energy employees volunteered in numerous capacities to revive the appearance of CFC's main building at 7524 Avenue E, Houston, TX 77012. We salute you, CenterPoint Energy for your generosity and commitment to be ALWAYS THERE.

Community Family Centers greatly appreciates the ExxonMobil Corporation employees who volunteered at the October 16th Friday Food Fair as part of the United Way Impact Day to help raise awareness for the greatest needs in our community.

Thank you to the numerous Valero Houston Refinery employees who volunteered for the November 6th Friday Food Fair! Thank you for making a huge difference in the East End community!

Thank you to the fifteen Phillips 66 volunteers who served the East End Community November 13 through Community Family Centers' Friday Food Fair! We are extremely grateful to Phillips 66 for choosing CFC as their United Way of Greater Houston Impact Day volunteer location.

As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation in not to utter words but to live by them. John F.  Kennedy

These words from John F. Kennedy remind me of the dedicated people who, time and time again, help us make a difference in the lives of the families we serve.

These wonderful people are individuals like you who donate financially and of your precious time in support of our programs. These incredible people are employees of companies such as ExxonMobil, Valero and CenterPoint who may have never heard of us but find us and help us through United Way Days of Caring.  These amazing people are people we partner with in the community through organizations such as the East End Collaborative who hear that we have a need and go above and beyond to assist us.  These spectacular people work for organizations such as Bank of AmericaValero Benefit for Children and Latino Giving Houston and advocate in our favor so that we may receive much needed grants.

This Thanksgiving season, I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of this great organization and I would like to offer each of you my most sincere appreciation for everything you do in support of CFC and our mission. Thank you for living by your words and changing lives in Houston's East End community.

Sinceramente,

Maritza Guerrero

President/CEO

Members of the Community Helping CFC

Thank You, Maria Bolanos

When Maria Bolanos, City of Houston employee and member of the East End Collaborative, heard of a great need at CFC she stepped in and found a solution.  Hundreds of boxes are left over each Friday after they've been unloaded for the Friday Food Fair.  Unfortunately a few weeks worth of boxes began to accumulate causing an eyesore and safety concern. Thank you, Maria, for going above and beyond to help us resolve our cardboard box dilemma.  You make a huge difference in Houston's East End community.

Texas Episcopal Service Corps

Meet Paige Lennis

I came to Houston on August 1st through a program called the Episcopal Service Corps (ESC). The program is geared towards young adults ages 20-29. It is one year of service working at non-profit organizations that deal in socioeconomic issues as well as further developing our spirituality. There are many states that have a service corps program and some larger cities may have more than one program. Each program will host 3-6 service corps members. Through the program young adults like me commit to one year of service, during this year of service the members of each program live in community by sharing a living space as well as meals and having formation night every week where we do book studies or bible studies together. We have 5 ESC members here in Houston and 3 in Austin that make up the Texas Episcopal Service Corps. Each member is placed at a different host site; my host site is here at Community Family Centers where I assist with the Los Ninos Early Childhood Montessori Program.  I chose Houston as my host site because I wanted to challenge myself to live in a big city. So far my time here has taught me that this small town country girl was not made for the big city; let’s just say I can’t wait to go home for Christmas and enjoy some cold weather and snow, this Texas heat has been no joke!
