Los Niños Early Childhood Montessori Program

An NAEYC Accredited Early Learning Program

ABOUT OUR PROGRAM

Los Niños Early Childhood Montessori Program is one of the several programs which serve the community as part of Community Family Centers. It supports hard-working families by making high-quality early childhood education accessible at a low cost to Houston’s inner-city East End children ages three to six years. Our program dedicates its mission to the philosophies and teachings of Montessori pedagogy which accelerates learning in a self-paced curriculum based on individual mastery of skills while supporting children’s ability to absorb knowledge from their surroundings. We have a strong commitment to the education of the young children enrolled in our program, maintaining holistic approaches to benefit the whole child.

Los Niños Montessori holds full accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and is certified by the Texas Rising Star Program (TRS) as a 4-star-level center.  The program is also an affiliate of the United Way Bright Beginnings Initiative, the Young Learners School, and the Child Care Council of Greater Houston.  For the convenience of our families, full-day and part-day schedule options are available for all enrolled students.  Our Lead Teachers hold current American Montessori Society (AMS) teaching credentials, with over twenty years of experience, combined. >

MONTESSORI PHILISOPHY

Montessori is a philosophy and a teaching method with the fundamental tenet that a child learns best within a socially enriched environment that supports each individual’s unique development.

Montessori’s theories include such revolutionary premises as:

• Children are to be respected as different from adults and as individuals who are different from one another.

• Children create themselves through purposeful activity or work.

• The most important years for learning are from birth to age six.

• Children possess unusual sensitivity and mental powers for absorbing and learning from the people and materials in their environment.

ENROLLMENT

• Child must be 3 years old by September 1 of the entering school year. Enrollment is open to children up to the age of 6.

• Child must be fully toilet trained.

• Once space availability is determined and income and residency is verified, an application may be completed and submitted for review.

• In addition to the enrollment application, please also submit:

• An Enrollment Fee of $30 (Cash, Check or Money Order)
• Child’s Birth Certificate
• Child’s Social Security Card
• Current and validated immunization record
• A Copy of Parent Identification (driver’s license, or government issued ID)
• Proof of Income
• Medical Insurance (Medicaid/CHIPS/Private)
• Proof of Residence – utility bill or lease agreement (electric, water, gas)

SPECIAL NOTE

Los Niños Early Childhood Montessori Program holds full accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).  The NAEYC Accreditation of programs for young children represents the mark of quality in early childhood education.  NAEYC Accreditation began in 1985 with the goal of providing an accrediting system that would raise the level of early childhood programs. Today, over 7,000 programs are NAEYC Accredited across the nation.
NAEYC accredited programs invest in early childhood education because they believe in the benefits to children and families. Early childhood experiences—from birth to age 8—have an enormous impact on children’s lifelong learning and positively contribute to their health and development. Early childhood education programs with the mark of quality benefit children with greater readiness for and success in school.

Los Niños Early Childhood Montessori Program has been certified as a Four-Star (4-Star) level center under the Texas Rising Star quality rating and improvement system. The Texas Rising Star program is “a voluntary, quality-based child care rating system of child care providers participating in the Texas Workforce Commission’s subsidized child care program.” TRS Certification is available to Licensed Center and Licensed and Registered Child Care Home providers who meet the certification criteria. The TRS Provider certification system offers three levels of certification (Two-Star, Three-Star, and Four-Star) to encourage providers to attain progressively higher certification requirements leading to a Four-Star level.

The Early Childhood Program at Community Family Centers participates in CACFP, Child and Adult Care Food Program to serve healthy meals to our students. Breakfast, Lunch, and an afternoon snack are provided daily at no additional cost to families.

The City of Houston recognizes that child care is a necessary and supportive human service, integral to the revitalization of any neighborhood. These services support neighborhood residents in their efforts to become employed, maintain employment and increase the economic viability of the community. Through grant support from the Child Care Council of Greater Houston and the Child Development Block Grant (CDBG), Los Niños Early Childhood Montessori Program is able to provide quality child care and learning and positive parenting training to low-income families who are working, in training, or seeking employment.
